Beep! Beep! Beep! 4:15am and I jerk awake. Half asleep I rummage around in our dark apartment and soon leave to bicycle through the crisp morning air to my new job as a barista. The smell of freshly brewed coffee reminds me of loving relationships, beautiful sunrises, and divine conversations. I know those who enter the store share in a similar communion.
These men and women enter this watering hole daily with empty sleepy eyes but leave with warm smiles and courage for their day. They are from all walks of life but are transformed by "Good Morning!” and a simple cup of joe because they are all welcome, all served, and all invited to share in a communion of coffee.
This daily ritual reminds me of the sacred fellowship called the church. It is a place to belong, to grow, to serve, to give, and is exactly why we’re here in Midtown Indianapolis. Here and now, this coffeehouse is a place of worship for me and I know of no better place to commune with the people God has called me to serve. My hope and prayer is with every cup of coffee I serve, the transformational love of Christ is given freely.
You see, we (Rebecca and I) seek to restore dignity, worth and purpose through Christ by sharing our lives. We know God is already here; now we have the opportunity to bump into what he has been doing all along.
He's already opened several doors for us by connecting us with local ministers, musicians, students. Now we invite you to join with us in prayer as we continue to explore Jesus' plan for his church.
